MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS FOR ALL POLICE OFFICER APPLICANTS:

1. 1. At least 21 years of age (maximum age at time of application is 40)
   2. Must be a U.S. Citizen
   3. Must possess a valid driver’s license and have an acceptable driving history that meets the criteria for insurability established by Sylvania Township
   4. Must have at least 64 semester (96 quarter) hours of college credit, or an Associate’s Degree, at an accredited college or university by date of hire
   5. Must be able to work rotating shifts, nights, overtime, weekends, and holidays
   6. Nicotine & marijuana free: pertaining to all tobacco, nicotine, and marijuana products

*There is no physical fitness test required for either entry-level or lateral transfer candidates.

Police Officer Compensation

The Ohio Patrolman’s Benevolent Association provides legal and bargaining representation for members of The Sylvania Township Police Department. Pay rates are established through collective bargaining.

There is one year between each step.

Police Officer Benefits

Sylvania Township offers Medical (including prescription), Dental and Vision plan coverage. Employees pay into the Ohio Public Employees Retirement System (OPERS) and can choose to contribute to Ohio Deferred Compensation, a supplemental retirement plan similar to a 401k.

Additionally, employees receive:

• All initial issue uniforms and equipment, including bulletproof vest
• $850/year uniform allowance (after first 12 months of employment)
• Longevity pay after 5 years, tuition reimbursement, life insurance, paid vacation, sick leave and holidays, wellness program and gym reimbursement
