We are accepting applications and test scores for the position of Police Officer from March 16-30, 2026!

 

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS FOR ALL POLICE OFFICER APPLICANTS:

    1. At least 21 years of age (maximum age at time of application is 40)
    2. Must be a U.S. Citizen
    3. Must possess a valid driver’s license and have an acceptable driving history that meets the criteria for insurability established by Sylvania Township
    4. Must have at least 64 semester (96 quarter) hours of college credit at an accredited college or university by date of hire
    5. Must be able to work rotating shifts, nights, overtime, weekends, and holidays
    6. Nicotine & marijuana free: pertaining to all tobacco, nicotine, and marijuana products
    7. No OPOTA/OPOTC peace officer certification required

 

*There is no physical fitness test required for either entry-level or lateral transfer candidates.

 

STEPS TO APPLY:

    1. Thoroughly read our Recruitment Guide, which can be downloaded HERE (click link).  The Recruitment Guide details the entire hiring process.  Also, it explains, based on your qualifications, whether you need to take the National Testing Network exam in addition to submitting the Police Officer Application.
    2. Complete and submit the Police Officer Application, which can be downloaded HERE (click link).  The Police Officer Application is required of ALL applicants, regardless of Entry-Level Applicants or Lateral Transfer Applicants.
    3. Submit your National Testing Network test scores through the NTN portal, if you do NOT qualify as a Lateral Transfer Applicant.
    4. Police Officer Applications and NTN test scores (if applicable) must be submitted before the end of the day on March 30, 2026.

Police Officer Compensation

The Ohio Patrolman’s Benevolent Association provides legal and bargaining representation for members of The Sylvania Township Police Department. Pay rates are established through collective bargaining.

There is one year between each step.

Police Officer Benefits

Sylvania Township offers Medical (including prescription), Dental and Vision plan coverage. Employees pay into the Ohio Public Employees Retirement System (OPERS) and can choose to contribute to Ohio Deferred Compensation, a supplemental retirement plan similar to a 401k.

  • $850/year uniform allowance (after first 12 months of employment)
